Question: I went to pick a friend up from someone's house and take him to his car. When I arrived there were cars in the driveway so I pulled over I the side of the street in front of his neighbors house and waited for him to come out. Turns out the cars in the driveway were narcotics officers there serving a search warrant. While waiting for my friend a officer approached my vehicle and asked for my ID and radioed my information in.I have been arrested for a felony charge before under the First Offender Act in which I completed my probation in october of 2014.I assume the dispatcher made the officer aware of my prior arrest which led him to telling me to step out the car and searching my vehicle.the officer found a 1/2 a gram methamphetamines and I was arrested and taken to jail.my question is whether in the right or wrong for possessing an illegal substance, I wasn't at the home they were serving the search warrant at nor was i on the property in any way, so did the officer really have any right to approach me in the First place or was this a type of illegal search and seizure?

Answer: The officer has a right to approach whomever he wants whenever he wants. The same way you have a right to drive and park where ever you want. You had a right to park on the public street, and he had a right to approach and question you on that public street. The fact that you are complaining about the manner in which you were approached tell me the answer to my only question: Did you give the officer permission to search your vehicle? Let me answer that for you: YES, you did. Case closed. Get ready to get back on probation again. Bye.
